
Joshua L. Mazur is a conductor, composer, singer, pianist, and educator whose work bridges the worlds of concert music, sacred music, theater, and community artistry.
Originally from Davenport, Florida, he is currently based in Gainesville, Florida, where his work centers on musical leadership, artistic collaboration, and the cultivation of vibrant musical communities.
Joshua serves as Director of Music Lakewood Presbyterian Church Jacksonville, Florida. He is also Conductor of the Ocala Symphony Orchestra Chorus and serves regularly with the Ocala Symphony Orchestra as conductor and collaborator. In addition, he has directed community and specialty ensembles including the River City Ringers and the Shabbatones.
As a performer, Joshua has appeared in recital, opera, musical theater, and sacred music settings. His recent operatic and theatrical roles include Don José in Carmen, Prince Yamadori in Madama Butterfly, Silvio in Pagliacci, and the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera.
Equally at home at the piano and organ console, he is known for recital programming that combines liturgical sensitivity, improvisation, storytelling, and stylistic breadth.
A prolific composer and arranger, Joshua has written hundreds of works for choir, orchestra, handbells, chamber ensembles, solo voice, and musical theater. His music has been performed internationally, including performances at Carnegie Hall and the Vatican City. His larger works include the musicals In Willowbark Woods and Any Ordinary Sunday, as well as the large-scale choral work Threads of Light: A New Requiem.
Joshua holds degrees in Voice Performance and Conducting from Florida Southern College and University of Florida, with additional doctoral study in composition and theological study through Concordia University. Alongside his artistic work, he has taught music theory, aural skills, voice, and ensemble musicianship at the collegiate and community levels.
His artistic philosophy emphasizes clarity, authenticity, craftsmanship, and the transformative power of ensemble music-making. Across sacred and secular settings alike, Joshua’s work seeks to create experiences marked by beauty, depth, honesty, and human connection.
Joshua lives in Florida with his wife, Hannah Mazur, an accomplished soprano and music educator. Outside of music, he writes poetry and reflective prose exploring memory, stillness, interconnectedness, and the interior life.
