Joshua L. Mazur is a multi-disciplinary musician from Lakeland, Florida, whose work spans performance, composition, conducting, and education. An award-winning singer, Joshua has performed in both recital and opera. His recent engagements include Prince Yamadori in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Don José in Bizet’s Carmen, the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, and Silvio in Pagliacci.
Since 2017, Joshua has served as Director of Music Ministry and Organist at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, where he fosters vibrant, faith-filled musical experiences. In addition, he is the Choirmaster of the Ocala Symphony Orchestra Chorus, Assistant Conductor to Maestro Matthew Wardell and the Ocala Symphony Orchestra, and an Adjunct Professor of Music Theory and Aural Skills at the College of Central Florida. Whether conducting Handel’s Messiah or mentoring emerging talents through his Music Apprentice and Scholar programs, Joshua’s work reflects his belief in collaboration, steady growth, and the transformative power of music.
A prolific composer and arranger, Joshua has created over 400 works for soloists, ensembles, choirs, and orchestras. His compositions have been performed worldwide, from Carnegie Hall to the Vatican, and at international choral festivals. He has also composed film scores for After Midnight (2016) and I Just Called to Say I Love You (2018), and written musical theater works such as In Willowbark Woods (2020) and Any Ordinary Sunday (2022). Joshua holds a Bachelor’s degree in Voice Performance from Florida Southern College and a Master’s degree in Voice Performance and Conducting from the University of Florida. He completed several semesters of doctoral studies in Music Composition and received theological training through Concordia University’s CUEnet program.
A survivor of septic shock, Joshua’s experience has deepened his gratitude for life and faith, shaping his mission to inspire and uplift others through music. He resides in Gainesville, Florida, with his wife, Hannah—an accomplished soprano and choir and theater director at Bradford High School and Middle School—as well as their dogs, Sweet Pea and Willow, and cats, Figaro and Copland. In his spare time, Joshua enjoys writing poetry and contemplative non-fiction.
